Posted February 10, 2009. As KDX stated go for the replate as opposed to the sleeve, they cool better plated than sleeved. The last one I had done was about $200-250. You may want to change the crank seals and the water pump seal, Unfortunately to change the crank seals means splitting the cases.

Keep the 500 for riding at the desert 100 or in Spokane (or OMT's green dot roads near Vantage!). Keep the XR for the rides in Manastash or in western WA. Problem solved! Maybe talk the little lady into letting you have a motocross bike too! A garage with at least 3 bikes in it is a happy garage.

The CR has much more aftermarket add-ons available, and it is easier to find. The KX is butt-ugly IMO. The KX500 has a PWK carburetor (the one thing better than what comes stock on the CR500) The CR500's carburetor still works great, and is easier to tune than the PWK's are.

Apr 10, 2016. #3. I've got a Lectron high velocity 44mm carb set up for the KX500 with a carb heater pressed on to it for sale if you're interested. Once its tuned the first time, I haven't needed to adjust anything. Stator wise, you can get a 50 watt lighting coil that will run hand warmers and an egt gauge just fine.

Oct 17, 2002. #3. A Pro-Circuit pipe would be a downgrade, not an upgrade. I bought my '89 KX500 used, and it had the PC pipe on it. It ran like it had a sock in the muffler. Slow and mello. I put the stock pipe on, and it scared the heck out of me. (The 89's did not have the heavier flywheel of the '93 and newer 500's.)
