KX 500 won't start. I own a 1986 KX 500 in good shape. It has plenty of spark, good gas, and more than enough compression, it just won't start. I have checked the electrical components, all good, cleaned carb till it shines, new plug, replaced one stator coil. If there is anybody that can point me in another direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Posted October 29, 2007. This is a picture of how team green did their clutch arms. Windbean thats an interesting pic of the KX500's clutch arm. The stock KX500's use a combination steel arm/shaft assembly, welded together. That setup in your pic is 2 separate components.

The CR has much more aftermarket add-ons available, and it is easier to find. The KX is butt-ugly IMO. The KX500 has a PWK carburetor (the one thing better than what comes stock on the CR500) The CR500's carburetor still works great, and is easier to tune than the PWK's are.

Sure. In terms of mean effective pressure the 500 is going to be more difficult to kick over even with lower cranking psi. My point is that the 500 will have a lower compression test result than the 250 due to the difference in compression ratio. It is not directly comparable to a 250 in terms of compression test results.

lawdogg. First off, thank you everyone here for all your past posts which have been a HUGE help. I picked up a KX-500U as a part of a Yamaha stack (w/ CX/MX-600U etc). It's been sitting on a shelf in the garage for a while. I recently took it off the shelf, put a new belt on it, disassembled and lubed the transport, and put it back together.

Apr 10, 2016. #3. I've got a Lectron high velocity 44mm carb set up for the KX500 with a carb heater pressed on to it for sale if you're interested. Once its tuned the first time, I haven't needed to adjust anything. Stator wise, you can get a 50 watt lighting coil that will run hand warmers and an egt gauge just fine.

There has never been a bigger love for a brutal dirt widow maker than the CR500. Part of the love was the era, "Ride Red". It dominated the world at the time. Was an excellent Moto bike. The CR turns MUCH better and has a smaller bike feel. But, the quick turning comes at the expense of stability. Put a stabilizer on the CR and it makes a world of difference. KX steers much slower and feels like a bigger bike. Power - The KX has more overall power, mostly up high.

Oct 17, 2002. #3. A Pro-Circuit pipe would be a downgrade, not an upgrade. I bought my '89 KX500 used, and it had the PC pipe on it. It ran like it had a sock in the muffler. Slow and mello. I put the stock pipe on, and it scared the heck out of me. (The 89's did not have the heavier flywheel of the '93 and newer 500's.)

Posted February 10, 2009. As KDX stated go for the replate as opposed to the sleeve, they cool better plated than sleeved. The last one I had done was about $200-250. You may want to change the crank seals and the water pump seal, Unfortunately to change the crank seals means splitting the cases.

All the steps are the same so you can follow the steps from any KDX conversion to do the swap on a KX500.
